Starlings and English sparrows

The Starlings and English Sparrows are getting to be a pain here again. Among the having to clean droppings from our vehicles daily the Starlings and cow birds constantly harass the Blue Birds we have nesting in our bird boxes. So today I tried two different brands of ammo in my Grand Finale CZ that are fairly quiet and hoped to be accurate enough for the pests. The first target was the left target with the RWS sub sonic hollow point. The left was the first five from a clean barrel and the next five were the second group. I also moved my front bag back to the front of the magazine where I normally put as it seems to be the best spot for the bag. Next were the Aguila standard velocity 40 gr. solid nose. This rifle prefers this lot number to another lot number of the same brand and I have a case of this ammo that I can shoot a lot of it this summer. The sub sonic hollow point is devastating on the Sparrows and Starlings and actually look like they were hit with a high velocity load. I was very impressed with the expansion they have on the birds I shot today even at the lower velocity. Should make a god squirrel bullet for fall hunting. Here is the results from a shortened shooting session due to storms coming in before I could do more shooting. Targets were at 35 yds. and most shots will be 25 to 40 yds.

I love Bluebirds, too.

I've used RWS subsonic as well as Eley subsonic with great results in accuracy all the way out to 50 yards. Not surprised your CZ likes that ammo. Now get out there and shoot some of those House Sparrows and Starlings. (Both are legal to shoot, by the way.)

Pesky buggers, they are.
