Warm weather coming and that means the snakes will be out and about in the woods.

So I had been thinking should I carry my SW Victory .22 semi-auto, a larger .45 Colt or just my 20 ga. Shockwave since it is easy to carry?
Well I made some "rubber" snake test today using my Victory .22 pistol and the Shockwave with 7 1/2 shot.

Was hard to tell the hits with the .22 as the snake would move after hit but hard to see any hits as I think the rubber would close back up.
With the 20 ga. Shockwave using the birdshot....no doubt when you hit with a 2 inch of better hole and half a snake laying around!

So think the Shockwave gets the nod with a sling to shoulder carry while out and around my range property IF encountering a
copperhead or such.

That'll teach 'em to mess with you! Solid choice supported by careful testing. Who can argue?

That crater in the dirt in first pic is a result of test shot with the Shockwave and I think that snake is deep in the hole!
All test shots about 6-7 ft. distance.

No doubt about it. Dead snake.

I have the twelve ga shockwave, perfect companion to accompany me on tours of the farm on the Polaris Ranger UTV.
Never know what you might come across, coyote, rabid skunk, trespassers annoyed at getting caught and you calling the sheriff.
The snubby always tags along too, but nothing like the shotgun solution.

Life in the country. I usually see a couple copperheads every summer around my place, once even in the garage. My .22mag LCR has been sufficient to take care of them with ratshot, and much easier to carry around than a shottie while mowing or out in the garden or shop, etc. .

Yes that is a great option too.

If I lived in poisonous snake country, I have a Contender pistol barrel in 410 that would certainly work. No poisonous snakes, this far north, but we do have some killer mosquitoes that might need some of that 410 medicine.

Probably no bag limit on those.

I use my springfield xd-45, does a good job at killing snakes large and small

Have not tried any yet, but bought a box of CCI #4 357's for my S&W revolver. I think that will do for me. Gonna have to see how they pattern when I get up to the summer cabin.
