home made peep

Post by glb » Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:02 pm

was siting around thinking about how hard it is to see with the sights that come with the big boy. so got out my v shaped file and did a lot of filing to make a large groove. then I turned it over locked it in place and ran to the range. what I found is that it is of course not a round hole but works in my opinion very well. The face that I am just too lazy and too cheep to actually buy a real peep here are the results of my day at the range

I agree, that is some excellent work with the homemade peep.

Not cheap at all with your DIY peep. I'd say resourceful, especially after seeing your great POI target results.
Would like a peek at your peep in some pics.

Bet the Cowboys in their day did the same. ;)
Good job and good shooting.

well this took a while started with a $2000.00 lens and ended up with a kit lens go figure. the sight is actually green but it was a little blurry so I had to darken it so you can see it. as you can see for my first attempt it is not a pretty thing but it works well. have a couple of other plans to try but not going to change any thing till after my pig hunt

Very ingenious! I'm guessing the challenge for me (and maybe some other "more seasoned" members) is that is sits out in the dovetail on the barrel, yes?

Still, if it works for you (which it clearly does!), that's some mighty clever design work. Congrats!

Not to throw stones at ingenuity, but why not just drill a hole? Most of the commercial peeps are round. Drilling a hole is much easier than filing a V.

That is some real nice shooting with your makeshift peep sight. Good luck on your pig hunt.

.
Maybe. But suspect filing on the edge of small insert was easier than trying to drill a hole in it.

the reason for the v was I was originally making the slot larger so I just used the small v shaped file. then I got the idea to turn it over and make a peep out of it since the v was there I just stayed with that. Now on my 22 mag I did make it round and it does work even better then the v. I am currently trying to get a replacement piece for my 357 so I can start over with roung
