.45-70 load test using Black MZ powder....

Well made a quick trip to the range to test the 20 loads of 405 gr. RNFP bullets loaded with Alliant Black MZ powder.
Alliant's load data is a little lacking on some detail but I used their .49 gr. load with this bullet.

Results were lots of smoke and cleaner shooting than real black powder. There was a powder residue in the barrel but it cleaned out
very easy using Ballistol.

The target from 50 yds. wasn't bad at all for the first 4 shots when you figure I have a hard time seeing that small front sight bead as it can get lost on the target.

So it is a fun powder to use when you want a touch of the black powder expierence with your vintage rifles or 6 shooters!

Well according to their load data it should be in the 1360 FPS range but they don't specify what rifle or barrel length.
I didn't bring my chrony along but maybe next time.
