Took out the 45-70 AW and the 357 Single Shot. Didnt really find any loads with the single shot worth posting. But there is 3 pictures of 45-70 targets I shot. All off the bench with bags at 50 yards. I think I have a few loads here that will work for me. I might also mention I shot these with the stock sights that came on the gun and my 66 yr old peepers. All the bullets were the 300 Gr Nosler silver tip bullets. There the same ones that JEBar is using from Shooters Pro Shop.

This one is as it says in the picture 45 Grains of reloader7. I really think this would be a tight group if the rifle was scoped.

This one is IMR 4198 at 41 grains. I think this load is also tighter with a scope

This load here is one grain more but it sure did come up in elevation from 41 grains. This is 42 grains of 4198. I would not be scared to load this one at all. Im not wanting to scope this gun now. Id like to just use it as is. I really like the all weather and Im going to use it as a back up gun when I go hunting this year. These loads are also not that bad in the shoulder dept for recoil. YMMV

Nice shooting BigAl. Looking good. Don't think my shoulder could take a 45-70.

Plus one on the shooting. Nice work, all the more so with the factory sights. Should make for a very reliable back up gun.

Hey, RR, I think you'd do fine with the right 45-70 load. That's the beauty of the 45-70. Covers such a wide range of power, there's something for everyone. The bad news for those of us who don't reload, though, is the price of factory ammo. Definitely run you more than your beloved 45 Colt. Very expensive.

none of the three are bad at all .... they do seem to confirm that you can build a dandy hunting load around the 300 Ballistic Silvertips

Looks like any of those loads would work.
Good shooting at 50 yrds and stock sights.
I couldn't take the beating at those speeds.

That's going to be one great back-up gun! Forget the scope and just throw a peep sight on there!

Great shooting and thanks for the recipes!
