I took my new baby out to the range today and put another 50 rounds through her. That brings the round count to 200 now. I had a few good groups at 25 yards but didn’t have much luck at 50 yards. Eventually (when the budget allows) I will replace the factory sights with a Skinner Express and front blade. I’m loving this rifle more every time I shoot it. It’s light and handy.

I’m still having a problem with the last round in the magazine feeding properly. The nose of the round seems to be catching on something. If I raise the muzzle and shake the rifle before closing the bolt it will load into the chamber properly. Otherwise it just wants to jam. This only happens on the last round regardless of how many rounds I load. This makes me think the brass mag tube is the culprit. When I push the follower into the brass tube there seems to be some friction (not just from the spring). It’s like there are rough edges inside the tube contacting the follower. The tube on my BBB 20” is MUCH smoother. Also, some of the orange paint is wearing off of the follower. See the pictures below. I think I will email Henry and ask for a replacement tube. Does anyone have a good email contact for customer service?

Your POIs at 25 yards with the buckhorn sight look darn good to me, Deano. I've never been able to use buckhorn sight....always the eyes getting in the way. So I'd take your targets in a minute!

Good to read about you liking your Henry more every time you shoot! Practice might improve the 50yd results some, but still pretty darn good considering those are with the buckhorn.

I was going to give you a bad time for not using a pink towel in your pictures, but you have pink in your avatar so I let it go (um, sorta let it go)

Those small red dots have got to be hard to see at 50 yards. I usually use a 3 inch red dot pastie over those style of dots. I find them easier to focus on. The 25 yard targets look great.

Thanks for the contact info. I have emailed Dee and hope to get a response Monday. I must have missed the memo on the pink towel. What’s the story there?

Thanks, BigAl52! I’ve found that at 25 yards the brass bead perfectly covers a 3” circle and at 50 yards a 6” circle. That really aids in consistent aiming. I was having a bit of trouble at 50 yards. Some of that was the sun reflecting on one side of the bead and leaving a bit of a shadow on the other. Against a black target that shadow on the bead was confusing my eye. The bottom line is I want to replace the factory sights with something more precise. I want to stick with some type of iron sights, though. Probably a Skinner Express with a taller front blade.

Ah ha. Guess I’m going to have to find myself a pink cloth for future Henry pictures.

Great shooting! If you can try opening up that buck horn insert for more space around the bead when sighting it that helps.

I saw your post about modifying yours and I’ve been consider doing that. I just have to find my dremel and the right size bit. What did you use?

I emailed customer service and they have shipped me a new magazine tube. Hopefully that will solve the issue of the last round nose diving. Henry customer service is awesome!
