Weather was great here today mid 50"s so I took 4 rifles to the grasslands for some testing and shooting fun. Henry pump, Henry AW 45-70, Henry 357 Single Shot and a Winchester 375 XTR. First off the bench was the 45-70 with those New Years torpedos. I dint get a pic of the one target that was the best of the 4 as I had a dummy attack and shot it with another gun. But for Jims benefit Im going to load the 44 grain load of RL-7 again Jim and I might push it another .5 grain with 5 more. Max is 45 according to the Lyman manual. That AW seems to like them at a little higher speed. I only had 20 rounds of the torpedos and that was enough for me today especially after playing with the 375 next. That light 94 XTR with those 265 gr bullets does some serious talking to you. None of the targets I shot with it were that good as I was chasing windage with it. Its the first time I have had it out. I was using a portable bench with front and rear bags for all guns. Both the 375 and 45-70 are the stock iron sites. The Henry Pump I put a red dot on it. Bushnell TRS-25. For the money it isnt bad and does a good enough job for me plinking clays on a bank at a little over 50 yards is a kick. I also took the time to shoot it on paper with several different 22 brands. I shot Federal,Remington, Winchester, and 2 different CCI loads. The best one was CCI 36gr HP. With the Federal and then Winchester. Remingtons were not to good
This is the group I shot with the pump at 50 yards off the bags with the red dot. I really do like the pump its a fun gun to just plink with.

Last is the single Shot 357. I changed my mind on the red dot on it and took the Burris 2x7x32 scope I had off of another rifle I had that I had not been using much. I put the red dot on it its a Mini 14 in 300 BO. I shot several groups with it and got one group that was fairly good for plinking ammo. Its just a 125 grain HP with 6 grains of Red dot under it. The load is on the lighter side Im gonna try stepping up the charge a little and see what it does. I also have that same charge under some 158 grain Xtreme bullets that shot almost as good but not quite. Im gonna load those up again with a little more powder also and see what that does. I have a 8 lb jug or the Red Dot I want to use up.. Next pic is the one group I shot with the 12grhp Montana gold bullet

Glad I did the scope on the Single Shot I do like it.

thanks for the report ... my 44 gr loads were using IMR 4198 .... I have no clue how that relates to RL7 .... it would be interesting to see the muzzle velocity of the ones you loaded ....

Havent tried any 4198 yet Jim. These manuals show such different charges for some of this powder. The Lyman manual doesnt go that high in the Marlin and Levergun section. You need to roll over to the Ruger No1 and No 3 section to get loads that high. But when checking the Hornady manual it does.

Always enjoy hearing how much fun you have shooting your Henry Pump.
That rifle sounds like it would be a hoot to shoot. Would also like to see other pump owners post their Range Reports.

Thanks PT. The pump is a fun gun to shoot and plink with. I shot that off bags with a red dot at 50 yards. Might have been able to tighten that up a little with a scope but for a dot I didnt think that was to bad.

I use that TRS-25 on quite a variety of rifles and pistols. It's a great red dot for the money.

I too was looking at the TRS-25 for something, maybe the Heritage RR?

They seem to own that entry/mid level red dot market.

Gene if you do there is a company in Post Falls Idaho who makes the picatinney rail that goes right on the grooved receiver of the pump. It works good has 6 allen head set screws in it.

Thanks for the kind words the 357 single shot is still a work in progress but I really like the single shot. Even more that I thought I would. If you are on the fence about getting one do it you wont be sorry.
