Winter for us is mostly about getting ready for the upcoming spring and summer shooting season, though we do sneak out for a short range trip when our winter weather allows. Good time for us to make plans and do some gun projects.

So, what plans do you have for this next year with your shooting? Any change in direction or more of the same? Any plans for new guns, new shooting techniques? How abut your goals for your shooting?

As for us, I don't anticipate any big changes, just more drifting in the same direction we've been going these last couple years. That means more and more rimfire shooting (rimfires are the bulk of our gun collection) mixed with a healthy dose of light centerfire shooting, though, given my somewhat reformed recoil addiction, I may pull out a nasty magnum for old time's sake.

I do plan some tweaking of the shooting positions I use. Oh, I'll still do a lot of offhand work, but I also want to add in some of the old field shooting positions I used to use, namely some kneeling position and field sitting position shooting, both with handguns and rifles. And, yeah, going to do a bit more bench shooting, just to relax.

As for iron sight shooting, well, the handwriting has been on the wall for some time, now. Love the tradition of iron sight shooting and, hey, it's fun in its own right, but I love being able to shoot up to my abilities, more, and optical sights let me do that. Yup, some of my iron sight rifles may be wearing a scope in 2019.

As for gun types, the trend for us has been more and more single shots, more and more bolt guns and, recently, some traditional semi-auto rimfire rifle and pistols to bring back some of that old time plinking shooting fun, not to mention semi-autos do provide some shooting advantages for my target work.

We've sold off most of the vintage collectibles in the safe that were only collecting dust and converted them into guns that we will be shooting, more. At our age, sitting on vintage guns for the sake of them appreciating in value is a waste of time, money and guns. No more dust collectors.

My goal is to keep the crying & whining in the g'safe to a better minimum. They all seem to want their fair share to get out and run around. Of course, some have not been exercised in a while.

More 100 yd work. Might blow up some golf balls too.

I just hope to do a lot MORE shooting in 2019. Didn't shoot much at all in '18 due to a number of reasons, health leading the pack. I plan to bite the bullet, (pun intended,) and get out a lot more in the coming year.

I hope to be back in the saddle again, too; getting to the shooting range once a week like I did two years ago. Then, I would usually shoot 100 rounds of .357s from my Henry BBB and Uberti SmokeWagon revolver, alternating between the two; or 180 rounds of 22 LR (one full Spee-D-Loader) in my Henry classic and another 50 from my Heritage RR revolver, also alternating between the two.

I enjoyed showing the targets to my wife, who was delighted that I had found an interest that I loved. Since I lost her, the motivation to shoot (or do much of anything) has been lost, too. I paid for a year's membership to the range ($400) last February, and have only been shooting twice, so far. This year, I hope to overcome it. It is something I want and need to do. Time will tell if I can.

To help get me motivated, I plan to buy a Taylors and Company Uberti Cattleman 22 LR, 6 round revolver (full sized), shortly. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what will.

I cant imagine how tough it is. But Im gonna give you the imaginary poke thru the keyboard to get out there and do some shooting. I hope you enjoy the new Cattleman when you get it and I wanna see a range report. I have one in the 12 shot and its a kick to shoot.

Ps CT...an 1860 would put a smile on your face every time. Just sayin'....

over the years my shooting needs have evolved in several different directions .... most were guided by the type of game and land we were hunting .... consequently, our firearms purchases were driven to meet those needs .... when the needs changed, those firearms drifted toward the bottom of the gun chest .... as a general rule, once I buy a firearm, it has a home and will eventually be passed on down the line ... not all but most I regret selling or trading the ones I've let go .... at my current phase, about every time I'd take our Henry 44 Mag .... don't see that changing but my resolution is pull some out of the bottom of the chest that haven't been fired in a very long time .... as a side note, doing so will require loading some powder, primers, and bullets that have been on hand since the 80's

Try to get a few gunsmithing projects done, re-finish the stock on my BBB and a few other things.

Started on my resolution a bit. Have already landed some 200gr RNFP bullets to load in my very soon to be Henry .45 Colt[HO12C]. I'll likely pick up my dies in a week or two. That .45 is gonna be fun. Just a range and desert rifle.

Save $$$ toward that Stallion .38 and Long Ranger .223.

My hope is to become very familiar with my 357 steel carbine. In all positions. I have fired several hundred rounds so far. Plan on more than a thousand this year.

The reloading project is going well. 500 rounds so far. I will be looking for different powder and bullet combinations.

NCG, you are an inspiration. I don't expect to achieve your level of accuracy. But that is the goal.

Well try and get more shooting in between cutting the grass and other projects down at my range. Now that winter is coming a great time to reload and I see a couple buckets of .45 Colt brass that's next on the "get to" list.
