December 20th, Wild West Christmas Shootin'

Post by RanchRoper » Thu Dec 20, 2018 3:20 pm

The wind was about 30-40 mph today, but that's normal around here. If I wait for the wind to drop, I might never shoot. Supposed to get some gusts later to 60.
Some old time frontier Christmas shootin' with my 1860 Henry and 1871 Colt Richards conversion SA revolver. Both in 45 Colt as most of you know. This report is a little more festive in keeping with the Season of course. :D

1860 Henry rifle, 50 yards, open sights, shooting from 1 knee due to a bit of a cross wind. 24 rounds of 250 gr LFN Wolf reloads. Might be one of my best targets. All 24 rounds in/on the 4" circle. A little windage adjustment and let 'er buck...8-)

Put the rest of the rounds on this target with the 1871 Colt SA, open top revolver, 25 yds shooting 1 hand. These are 6" targets and I just cycled through them.

RR, I am being completely honest when I say I've only known a few shooters in my life who could duplicate those targets with that Henry and those sights. What beautifully consistent and accurate shooting! Same with the revolver. I think I can safely say you've been an inspiration for all of us on what can be done with a traditional lever gun setup.

Oh, and I LOVE the Christmas touch. Merry Christmas to you.

Thank you very much, in case you hadn't heard, I really love my cowboy guns....temperature was ok today...low 40's.

ps...interesting that I have not cleaned the rifle for 4 or 5 outings, which is not like me, I usually clean after each shoot. So that 50 yd rifle target today is after about 250 rounds of lead through it. There goes my clean rifle barrel / best accuracy theory...

Thank you for the nice comments...I would not hesitate to buy another Uberti firearm based on the performance of the two I own. Their 1885 Low Wall single shot is still on my radar for spring 2019. All decked out with a tang rear sight, and double triggers. Oh ya....

I drool over all the Uberti's when I watch the monthly Cowboy Action matches at my range. I love their 1885 High Walls and Low Walls. I like this plain Jane high wall from Taylors https://www.taylorsfirearms.com/long-gu ... l-882.html. I wish they made them in .44 Mag since I have so much nice Starline Brass!

Excellent shooting and I always love your photos!
