Our 60 mph wind finally quit. A couple of days ago we had winds of 100+ mph. That's a bit much even for here.

Today, range time. Revolver work today. My 1871 Colt Richards Conversion revolver, 8" barrel in 45 Colt. 20 rounds of American Eagle 225gr JSP. I will not shoot copper anything in my Henry rifle, and normally do not in the revolver either but this was some ammo left over from a couple of years ago and I wanted to clear it out. Pistol gets a clean tomorrow anyway.

50 yds, 2-handed and standing. The open sights of the pistol are the hammer V notch type. I would like to be able to produce these results shooting one handed but just not there yet. These results are not like you see from some others here but it's a work in progress. NCG gets much tighter groups at these long distances. I have 16 rounds inside the 6" circle, and 12 of them in or touching the bullseye ring, which should be enough to drop the bad guys. Not bad for an old cowboy gun. Revolver worked flawlessly as usual. What a fun gun to take a trip back in time with. And my shootin' iron...

Hey, RR, I doubt I could shoot any better with such sights, maybe not even as well. Keep in mind, that such a gun and those sights were never intended to be used for target work. You've taken that design where few have been able to go. Oh, yeah, I'd be proud of such a group. Fine shooting, cowboy.

That is actually quite nice ammo to shoot...priced right too, just can't bring myself to put copper down my 1860 barrel.

If you label that target as a WIP, Cowboy from Another Time, I see nothin' but good progress there. 50-yards distance resulting in such POIs with a revolver that has a small notched sight, is darned impressive.

I can't explain why my Russian with that tiny v-notch sight on the barrel is so easy to use, and really does a great job. Plus it's absolutely fun to shoot. Maybe you can explain it from your "view," RR? We gotta be seein' about the same sight view I'd think.

The only challenge I have is that to look even remotely close to your Range Report, I've got to cover more than twice the distance I've been shooting at. Whew, talk about the progress & work needed here in the Show-Me-State!

The distance from V notch when hammer cocked to the front sight is 10.5" so I'm sure that helps line things up a bit. It is a hefty sidearm too so that might help with steady aim and recoil as well. It is about as wild west as they come when you cock it and stare down the barrel.

Never made that notch-to-front sight measurement before. Just pulled my Russian from its case to check it out. My barrel is 6.5" and 7.5" is what I measured for the sight radius. Other similarities --- It also carries a hefty weight at 2.7 lbs.; I know for certain that the trigger spur definitely helps to keep aim steady; recoil is mild.

Appreciate your comments, RR. I'll keep them in mind next range visit with this revolver. And I think it might help that when I gaze down that barrel, I should view the WWI "endless steppes" for the correct timing in history! Maybe I've been missing that.
