Range trip. 27F with a 30 mph wind today. A little chilly but no snow. Time to cowboy up.

1 target at 50 yds. Shot from 1 knee position today just because of the darn wind. 1860 Henry. 45 Colt Western Munitions reloads. Made in Calgary. 250 gr LFN. Just cleaned rifle last week. Always shoots best after cleaning.

25 rounds, 12" splash target. Most in the 4" circle after I figured out the wind. Hope you enjoyed my short report. Shoot safe. RR

great target (as usual) .... questions --- how often do you give your rifle a thorough cleaning .... what method do you use for running patches through the barrel

I clean usually after every outing or two. That would be 50-100 rounds through the rifle between each clean. I use a little bore mop that attaches to the rod I bought that won't scratch the inside of the barrel (graphite?). Soak it in Hoppe's bore cleaner, and it works good. Then run a couple of wet patches through with the same rod and a little pointy attachment. Then it usually takes a 2 or 3 dry patches and the last patch is clean.
I have never shot any copper through my rifle. Lead only.

PS...I also run a little gun oil on the barrel once cleaning is down too. Once through with an oily patch.

lead only .... I wasn't aware of that .... with the amount of shooting you do, not having any lead buildup would seem to indicate the muzzle velocity of your ammo seems to really suit your rifle .... I don't understand your graphite reference

Good for you for braving the weather and getting out there to shoot, cowboy. That target is as good as it gets with that gun, sights and conditions. Doubt anyone could do it better, me included. You are a maestro with that 1860.

We're hoping from a break in the snow, this week, to get out and shoot. The cold I don't mind so much, but can't see getting a gun wet from rain or snow just for the sake of our recreational shooting. This has been one crazy month for cold and precipitation.

The way that gun shoots for you, I wouldn't shoot copper, either. Besides, lead is the traditional 45 Colt load.

I thought the cleaning rod might be made of something that won't damage the bore. Maybe not graphite, maybe that't not the word. It has a brass muzzle guard.

Haha...found how to reverse camera in my phone by accident. That is pretty hi tech for this old cowpuncher.

I know this is a rifle Range Report, RR, and not your .45 Colt revolver. Still, your targets for each firearm look about the same with those "big holes" shredding the targets! And always there is the wind....

So for me, your shooting is a motivation. As long as I keep at it, hoping that someday my Russian and I will do big-hole results like you do!

I'm very impressed RR. I have been out of touch lately, but I remember encouraging you to shoot off hand and saying you would improve with practice.
