At last, today I got to the outdoor range with my new Russian revolver.
Since I've posted a lot of info on this revolver, will just write a short & sweet range report. Without a doubt, it was very sweet!

Outdoor Range Conditions
~~~Beat the heat at 10am. Sunny and blue sky, low 80s and low humidity, cross-range wind with light gusts at 10-15mph.

Targets
~~~All identical home-made. White rectangle cardboard 12" X 9"; target black circle 7" diameter; 2" orange bull.

Shooting Position
~~~Off hand only. Shot two-handed and one-handed.

The Revolver & Gun Sights and Target Stories

Russian Top-Break Model 3 First-ever 15 rounds shot, two-handed, at 7 yards using Choice .45 Colt 200 gr. RNFP Cowboy Action ammo (favorite I used today). Front sight on 6-1/2" barrel. 15 rounds shot, two-handed, at 15 yards using Aguila .45 Colt 200 gr. LFN Cowboy Action ammo. Fixed year sight. 15 rounds shot, one-handed, at 7 yards using HSM .45 Colt 200 gr. LRNFP Cowboy Action ammo.
Final Thots.
~~~Excellent revolver; spot-on POA! I wouldn't change a thing about the fixed sights --- really like them a lot.
~~~Very easy to handle with little recoil.
~~~The trigger spur is a plus! Very comfortable to hold & handle revolver, either one-handed or two-handed.

Really looking forward to get out again with this gun!

Outstanding work. Congrats on job well done. Time for me to get back in the 45 Colt shooting game.

Just recently shooting .45LC caliber with my two new revolvers, and found it has been most fun. (Yup, RR, these elder eyes see "those great big holes").

A .45LC rifle is not presently on my radar, but do check out the Henry site now and then. Henry doesn't presently offer a .45LC single shot version. That would be a model I'd really look closely at, especially in a Carbine.

And I'd bet the two CCH firearms would get along just fine, BigAl. I like the CCH finish on the Russian (made by that pistola group in Italy).

Won't happen though. Like I said, a single-shot Henry .45LC Carbine is what will trip my trigger!

Thanks for the shooting compliment. July was quite a month as I got both this 1874 Russian top break revolver and my 1873 Birdshead Cattleman revolver.

When I got the 1873 Cattleman, I thought this S/A revolver had broken the mold for me. The Birdshead grip fit me very well, and my elder eyes "liked" the fixed half moon front sight and fixed slotted rear sight. Plus shooting my first-ever .45LC was a pleasure.

Then I found the 1874 Russian top-break. The totally different design of this revolver, plus its WWI historical use by Russian calvarymen, caught my attention. The two revolvers could not be any more different in their configurations. When I got the Russian and have now shot it, the revolver caught me completely off guard. This gun went way beyond the smaller 1873 S/A in all ways!!

These were my first .45LC firearms. To strike a home run with each one in just a month's time was quite surprising and special. Now I have the challenge of deciding which one goes next to the shooting range. What a fun dilemma to have!

Soooo, are you going to step it up to the next level and shoot the Russian from horseback? Maybe not at a gallop at first, but something to work and look forward to. Gotta see how well that spur works at controlling the pistol from a horse.

Nope. RR would have to first teach me. Never have ridden a horse.
