Made a small start yesterday. I shot my Ruger Mark IV under different parameters than ruhler's competition regs, but the main focus for me was the distance the target is set. The indoor range I use has a max of 25 yards. Ruhler shot at 25 meters = @27.34 yards. I put my 8" target at 20 yards. Shot off hand, but not one-handed. Wanted to see how accurate the Mark IV was at that distance, as well as finding out how accurate my elder eyes are. I think the pistol won!
I shot 60 rounds of both Browning Performance Rimfire (BPR) 40gr RN and Federal 38gr CPHP. Again, made a home-made target. I drew the 8" target circle with a black marker on a 12"H X 16"W wide piece of cardboard, so I could see fliers. Yes, I was certain there would be some, and there were! I found these results.
There were 55/60 POIs in the cardboard rectangle. 37 POIs were in the 8" target circle, and the other 15 were in the rectangle. 5 POIs I used to decorate the range's backstop berm. Oh yes, just so I could see more clearly while shooting, I stuck a 3" round splash target in the middle of the 8" circle. Got 6 POIs in that for a 3" group.
It is going to take quite a bit of additional practice to shoot well using one-hand only at 25 meters. The Mark IV is quite accurate even with its fixed sights. I don't know if I'll achieve 50/50 and fill that target like Ruhler did; but I must say that it is fun going after it!! Have a good day, Everyone. PT7
