Range time! We have a 50F day today with a 30 mph wind and gusts to 50mph, temp feels like 30's....

Had the range to myself again this morning. 9 out of 10 times I seem to have my own private shooting range.

First up is my 1871 Colt SA Richards Conversion revolver at 25 yds. 45 Colt. Shot one handed, ammunition was 250 gr Sellier & Bellot LFN. Nice ammo for sure. Wind was all over the place today but all in all I was pleased with my targets. The revolver has the V notch sight in the hammer when cocked. Seems like a pretty accurate sight as long as I do my part. Such a nice pistol to shoot, 8" barrel, Army grip, open top and very historic. Gorgeous old cowboy gun.
Next up, my 1860 Henry in 45 Colt. Same ammo as above. 50 yds, off hand standing. I was pretty darn happy with my wind compensation today, makes me feel like I am starting to figure things out a little. Love this rifle.

Spot-on shooting, RR! That wind is a no-never-mind for you as seen on your targets.

Do you think the weather might have something to do with your having a private range?!?

I love shooting lever guns off-hand from the standing position! I can never seem to find too many other people who enjoy it.

If I wait for ideal range conditions around here I'd never shoot. Cowboy up or stay home.

It takes some getting used to. I kind of forced myself to learn to do it. Cocking while keeping the sights lined up with the target seems to deliver best results for me.

ditchparrot, I agree on finding folks who love offhand shooting. I think this forum is tops for us offhand shooting types.

Appreciate the kind words folks. Wish I had more details to offer for a range report; chrono data, etc but I am basically just a "show up and shoot" guy that loves my cowboy guns.

That is some some fine shooting with those classic guns - nicely done.

You remind me of my Brother in Law, RR. He's also just a natural great shot, no matter the sights, conditions, gun; doesn't matter.

The wind is a tough read. More often than not there are a few flyers until I get it sorted out, but today things just lined up nice. I like to put a few rounds on the 100 yard board when I can but today would be just wasting ammo.

Wind that strong not only blows the bullet around but the shooter too. Great shooting.
