This old rifle was bought for under $80 and the scope is worth about $20 so I didn't have high hopes for this one. It certainly isn't a tack driver but didn't do to bad bench shot. The windage adjustment housing on the scope is cracked and the scope would not take a windage adjustment. Instead of moving the crosshair it pushed the housing out away from the tube. A little glue solved that problem and I was able to zero the rifle, first shooting at bits of red clay close up and then shooter them further out. Once close to being zeroed I went to paper. I thought I made 10 shots but only see 9. I don't think I would have pulled it so much it would have been off the target. I did have a few fail-to-fires so this might have been one of the targets. At first I was shooting at 50 yard NRA targets but really couldn't zero in and I was all over the black. Then I put the two inch red dot on a new set and my groups were more than cut in half. The range was fairly busy and ceasefires were few and far between so I shot a lot of bits of red clays to zero the rifle.

Good to see you shooting again. About as plain Jane as a rifle can get but you coaxed a good target out of it.

Gene, those old Marlins are inherently pretty accurate, but you'll probably have to upgrade to a better scope and maybe do a bit of trigger work to see what it can really do. That's a darn nice group in the orange, though, already. Already showing its stuff.

Love those old single shots. Fun guns to collect and cheap doing it, even with my favorites, the Winchester 67s. Keep an eye out for some outhouse old Remington single shots, too. Also great guns. And then there are the Mossbergs, the Savage/Stevens, the Springfields and more.

Plus one for seeing you out shooting, again.

That old Weaver scope wasn't the best to use in the shade and the range will not see sunshine for another month. Plus there was some ground fog. Certainly a newer higher contrast scope would have helped but the idea was to use a scope that matched the rifle vintage.

I also have a single shot Springfield Model 53-B made by J. Steven's Arms Company. It has a front Lyman Globe and a Lyman receiver peep sight. It's a crusty old thing but shoots very good. The sight radius is 27.25". I would like to shoot it soon but will wait a month or two and try shooting it in sunshine. I'll be sticking to scopes for the time being.

Mine was a tube feed semi-auto. I traded it to a friend for a .22LR/.410 over and under.

Looks respectable to me. I would take that even if it is a gun in lower value. But wait a minute here there is something missing from this range report. Ya I think I know what it is!!!!. Where in the heck is the coffee cup. You know the big one.

I took a cup to the range but my camera battery was dead so no range pictures.

Hey, those old steel Lyman peeps bring a lot of money, now. Hang on to that one. Would love to see a range report on it, come spring.

It snowed last night so the range will be very light. Might be a good time to take it if there is no ground fog. That was the problem on Saturday.
