Sometimes it pays to be reminded who the boss is.

Yesterday I was at the range shooting my new Marlin 925 that I recently bought by mistake on GunBroker (true story- don’t ask). I have a 3-9 Vortex scope on it, and it’s got a RifleBasix trigger. I was trying it out at 100 yards, and I wasn’t having any success at all. Couldn’t seem to shoot a decent group to save my life.

So, I got frustrated and got out my CZ 452. I shot two 5 shot groups with some SK Rifle Match. The first was a horizontal string, about 1-1/4”. Not good, but waaay better than with the Marlin.

The second group was the best I’ve group I’ve ever shot. Four shots in one hole, and the fifth about 3/8” out.

The CZ has a Leupold 2-7 scope. Interestingly, the lower powered Leupold allowed me to see the little orange dot in the centers of the Shoot n See targets, while the dots were not visible with the higher power Vortex.

I’m not giving up on the Marlin, but it sure needs some work.

CZ makes fantastic rifles for the money. My 453 Premium and 455 Varmint will post sub-MOA groups all day long .... something that not very many manufacturers can match.

Being something of an accuracy nut, our CZs share the boss spot with our TC Contenders and, to some degree, our Winchester single shots. Love our lever guns, too, but when it comes to printing small groups, the CZs and Contenders are our go-to guns and, believe me, for the CZs to keep up with the Contenders says a lot because I am very fussy about performance. Besides inherent accuracy, the big advantage of the Contenders and the CZs are those very easy to tune triggers. Have tuned all of our Contenders and CZs to have match quality triggers.

As with the Contenders, I would post more on the CZs, but I try to keep my posts mostly on lever guns and Winchester single shots and such - guns that are more in the vein of Henry style guns. This is, after all, a Henry forum. Bill and I make at least one range trip a week, so it's not that we're not shooting. Just mostly the Contenders and CZs, with some shooting of the Winchesters.

NCG, you should do some reports on your CZ’s. Sir Henry has done quite a few on his and everyone always enjoys them.

The best target I've ever shot was with a CZ 452 American in .17HMR. It makes the bullets seem like they are laser guided into the bullseye. I didn't care for bolt actions for most of my life because I shoot left-handed but with eye problems I learned to shoot right-handed.

I wonder if I would have ever picked up a Henry if I were right-handed?

CZ's are fantastic 22LR rifles. Anyone who really likes to shoot 22LR out of a rifle will eventually get around to getting a CZ and a Marlin 39a....

A 39A is on my bucket list.

The last rifle I bought was a 452 American in left hand. Uncommon model and uncommonly accurate.

A guy at our range has a Mountie that he bought at Kmart back in the 70’s. It came with a skinny scope, and he paid $75 for it- which was a lot of money back then.

He could probably get $750 for it today. It’s not for sale, though.

That is the story of my life.

If he ever does sell it, I will keep you in mind.
