Cowgirl Corner: single shots, American style

Nice weather, but rain headed our way for the next couple days, so we decided to do another range trip, today. Since it is the Fourth, thought we should be shooting some American made single shots, so here's a couple of TC Contenders from the collection, both wearing 22 barrels on this outing. Doesn't get any more American than Thompson Center.

So here we have two bona fide match guns in that each wears a 22 LR Match barrel. The pistol is a Contender wearing a 10" 22 LR Match barrel with a TC 2-7x pistol scope. Changed the scope out, recently, so needed to do some sight in work. Have had this one for some time.

The rifle is a G2 (as in second generation Contender - different action, but uses the same Contender barrels.) It wears a 23" 22 LR Match barrel and an older Bushnell Trophy 4-12x AO. Gun is new with only a few boxes of ammo down the pipe. Still getting broke in. Last time out, the gun showed so much promise that I decided it needed a touch more magnification than the 3-9x scope it had been wearing.

What makes these Match barrels "match" barrels? In the TC Contender barrel world, that means a barrel with a tight chamber as compared to a standard barrel with a little looser chamber. Keep in mind, though, that we're talking Contenders, here. Even a standard 22 LR Contender pistol barrel will outshoot all but the very finest revolvers and semi autos.

How'd the shoot? Basically just wanted to get them sighted in because I had other Contenders to shoot.

Yeah, that's five shots in one hole with the rifle, then one more to get the scope adjusted and group moved to the left. Very pleased, of course, but not surprised by the results. As I said, Contenders really are in a world of their own in terms of accuracy. Little wonder, then, that we have more Contenders, both frames and barrels, than any other type of gun in our collection. Yup, I'm at my happy best when shooting these American made single shots. Thanks for allowing me to share my love of these interesting guns.
