I recently put a Marbles Bullseye sight on my Henry and spent a little time last Saturday and after work today trying it out. I was finding the front hooded and rear buckhorn factory sights a little hard to use (my eyes are pushing 50 years old...) The hood tended to shadow the front post too much for me, made worse by the range's backstop being in shade in the afternoon and my targets being black. I decided to remove the front hood and put a Marbles Bullseye on the rear. I like it. It's easy to align the rear sight's inner ring over the target, using the front to zero in.

Saturday's time was divided between adjusting drift on the Henry and my wife playing with her 10/22. We're both new to shooting, plus it was hot out, so we did things a bit slow. I got the drift set, just had to adjust elevation. That's when I learned I should have gone with the shorter model (Marbles offers 2 lengths). The elevator runs into the receiver when I notch it up, so I had to bend the little finger tab up a bit... I'll probably cut it off and bend the tip to make it look cleaner. Below is how it looks at the moment. Today was to try the sights, using the bench to check elevation. I then went freehand, shooting CCI SV at a typical sight-in target. Three rounds of 10 shots each, marking them after each round. I find I'm having trouble using both eyes, the sights just disappear. So for now it's only one eye open. The last round was seeing how quickly I could get back on target vs slow, deliberate aiming after each cycling of the action. I'm happy with my results so far. PS- I've also stripped the poly off of the stock and stripped the receiver cover. It just looks and feels better now. There's pics of the results in the Photo thread.

Those are the stats. Results? All you've done so far is very, very good. And glad to hear that "you are happy with your results so far." Nothing could be better than that!

For down the road, a suggestion you might consider. I had those same Marble sights on my first Big Boy. I, too, had to move away from the buckhorn sights as my elder eyes could not get it together. I chose the Marble sight because of the cost factor. But the more I read about other folk being really pleased with the barrel-mounted Skinner peep sights, I thought I'd tried one on my BBB. Well, I've had them on all my Henrys so far: two Big Boys and a .22 Magnum both had barrel-mounted peeps. My current SGC has the stock Skinner peep mounted on the receiver. I like this peep system much better than the Marble sight. My preference, and just a few pennies worth of a suggestion.

I love that my wife has an interest in learning to shoot! I feel strongly enough about my own need to learn that I'd be out there without her, but having her wanting to learn as well makes me a very happy man! I feel it's an important skill to learn, and an important right to exercise as a responsible citizen.

I just wish we started this 20 years ago...
