Range Report April 29th, 1860

Range day! 40 mph wind, so not too bad for shooting weather, at least for eastern slope of the Rockies country. 2 targets; the 1860 Colt Richards open top cartridge conversion revolver, and the 1860 Henry. Both from Cimarron. Both in 45 Colt.

Revolver: 250 gr LRN Remington. This ammo shoots great in the pistol. Shot 20 yds, 1 hand, standing. Doing a little better each time. I usually shoot at 15 yds but today there was a portable target board set up at 20 yds so I used it. A few strays here and there but I'm thinking that there's a good 10 or 11 that are dropping that bad guy. 17 out of 20 in the black. No Wild Bill but I felt ok with the results at that distance with 1 hand shooting. With the 8" barrel, it's a heavy firearm. Thanks for the tips TGR.

Rifle: 250 gr Winchester LFN. This ammo is unreal in the rifle. The Remington ammo above does not feed well into the rifle. But this stuff is awesome. Shot 50 yds off hand standing. Iron sights. 50 rounds. The wind had its way with me on the first dozen rounds, but after that it was meat on the table. ;) What a fun rifle to shoot, and I am starting to get on to it. If you want to time warp to the late 1800's sometime, shoot one of these rifles! I absolutely love it. :D

Wish I could afford the HRA one, but I think I can make do with this one... 8-)

Hope you enjoyed my little report as much as I did punching holes in the paper, not to mention it's time for a new backboard at the range!

*not sure why the images are sideways, but it was fairly level at the range...

Gorgeous guns and awesome shooting, RR. Makes me want to grab my favorite 45 colts and go cowgirl, again. Will defnitely be getting more Cimarrons at some point. Again, that's some fine shooting with those beauties. Great report.

Great off hand shooting, RR....I almost think your liking the gales at the "eastern slope of the Rockies." Probably other folk, myself included, would choose to avoid those high winds. You are handling both firearms quite well.

And I especially like your "description" of the 1860 Henry: "If you want to time warp to the late 1800's sometime, shoot one of these rifles!" 8-)

I won't get to shoot an 1860 in the near future, but hope to have a chance this summer to shoot my son's-in-law new Henry .45-40. That will be much fun, and a new experience for me.

Now when NCG says "awesome shooting" it really means something, and in this case she's right.

Who cares what you can do from a led sled @100yds. This is just "good shootin Matthew" type stuff..............
