Finally made it to the range where I zeroed the 24" Frontier. The Marbles tang is all the way to the right so I need to knock the front to the left and re-zero it. I could have done it at the range but knew I wouldn't be shooting more so decided to make the fine adjustment at home. I put about 50 rounds through it and the average 50 yard target was about three inches. Nothing to write home about but it was pouring down rain and my objective was to zero it. It still needs to be moved right and down an inch but I will fine tune it after moving the front sight. I also shot the Frontier with a Malcolm scope and my custom .22WMR Mares Leg with an octagon barrel. I didn't feel like putting more targets out in the rain so just shot at the berm.

The rifle is front heavy for carrying, but aiming it I didn't seem to mind. The tang and globe sight sure made aiming it a lot easier. I don't think I would ever scope a long barreled rifle like this one.

interesting .... for the most part I'm not a fan of standard peep sights but with open sights I do like a tang sight .... that allows me to keep the OEM sights

Great to see another range report from you, Gene. Just like old times.

Is it just the pic or does that Frontier have a different receiver finish than the usual painted Henry? If it's something special you cooked up, I do like it.

I removed the paint with a wire wheel and cold blued it. Then I take 0000 steel wool and hit the high spots like it would have naturally gotten more wear. If you didn't know firearms you would think its 120 years old.

Glad to see you out on the range again, Gene. And I grinned when I saw you remembered that trusty coffee cup.

A friend of mine just bought his first Henry, the 24" Frontier model you have. He kept the stock buckhorn sights on, and likes them...says he has been out twice with it and it shoots spot on. Has to be his younger eyes!

We plan to go shooting together in a couple of weeks; he'll take the new Frontier, and I'll have my SGC. I'll get to try out the Frontier, and am looking forward to that. (Wonder how I will do with the buckhorns??) I may email to him the photo of your "120-year-old" rifle to see if he likes it.

When I first looked at the picture at the range I also was attracted to the coffee cup and wondered if it was an NRA coffee cup until I looked a little closer. Funny PT7 mentions the cup. Ive never seen any range reports from SH I think because hes always hiking. So its nice to see one for the first time. I like the mares leg. But I dont know if I would like one or not. I need to find someone with one to shoot it to complete my curiousity about one. Al

All my range reports have a Mercury Coffee cup in the picture. And yes I've been hiking a lot but I needed to get back to shooting.

The cold blue finish looks really good, SH, and I like the scope on the GB, too.

Does the tang sight interfere with the grip at all, or does your hand just naturally "wrap around" it?

The scope is a Malcolm.

Your thumb naturally wraps around the tang sight and helps you to find the exact same spot.
