"Henry" speaks his first

Recently announced the new arrival of "Henry" .
The past few weeks he rested after the addition of a Skinner Express rear sight and today he spoke for the first time.
Decided to run 240gr. .44spcl for the initial firing and grouped 10 rounds very well but very high at 25yds.
Turns out the Skinner will not adjust enough to bring my group in so I removed it.

As expected I had much better results from the factory sights.

50 yds. 200gr. Hornady. .44mag. Sandbag bench rest. Factory sights out of box

May have to rethink the Skinner if I can't find a fix other than a higher front sight.

Also put my TC Encore. .44mag and .243 through some initial paces with great results.
Should have them dialed in next trip.

OP, if you go to the Skinner website, you will see that their sights often (actually probably more often than not) require a taller front sight. If you call them, they will help you order the correct one.

I was going to order both at the same time...common sense .... But the "shoot it first and see" talked me out of it.
Oh well, no big deal

Changing out the front sight is usually not a big deal, so don't give up on the idea of the Skinner. I've added a receiver mount Skinner to more than a dozen lever guns and with the one exception of a Marlin Cowboy Limited (which had a very tall front sight from the factory), have always had to change out to a taller front sight. I prefer blade fronts to bead fronts, anyway. As to the height, I usually opt for a little higher blade than I need and then file down as needed. Don't give up on the Skinner. Great sight.

If you are going to change out the front site, you may also want to check out a Lyman 17A Globe - I think the Skinner rear/Lyman front combo is the best iron sight setup you can put on a Henry...
