what is the longest distance you have ever been able to shoot ?

in our part of the county, a bit over 100 yards is the longest that I've found .

200 yards was our qualification range for the M16.
50 yards for the M1911. I always hated giving them back to the armory.

Up here in our north woods, the only way you'll typically get a shot over 50 yards is if you shoot at a range (our club range is 200 yards, max), down a fire road or across a lake. Even in the woods, you'd be lucky to get a clear 50 yard shot.

When I lived in the great wide open spaces, though, 200 yards was a close shot when varmint hunting.

I have nothing with a scope so I sometimes go out to 100yds. Usually 20-50yds with pistols.
Before my Skinner peep sight I tried 170yds with poor results, but did good with Mike's 243 and a scope :D

My son-in-law and our daughter own a shooting range in Hamilton, MO. The longest I've shot there is 232 yards with my 12-gauge shotgun (1-oz. slugs). I also tried my Bronze Big Boy .357 Magnum at about 120 yards one time. But with iron sights, it was a tough challenge. Anyway, he has two ranges there: the small range is around 150 yards, and the larger range (where I shot) reaches out to 400 yards.

Aside. My son-in-law regularly practices for long-distance competition at his range, but he wishes he had longer distance at his place. He competes with his .308 sniper rifle and his new Ruger Precision Rifle in .65 Creedmore (Ruger advertises that rifle to reach 1600 yards with great accuracy). He "found" a range near Trenton, MO called Vapor Trail Valley. http://vaportrailvalleyllc.com/index.html It has two ranges: one at 600 yards and the other at 1000 yards. My son-in-law is in 7th heaven at the 1000 yard spot -- and still wishes it were longer!! ;)

I am able to shoot at 400 yards at our range, that being the longest range available. But I have not used any longer than the 100 yard range. As far as a shot at a deer, probably no longer shot than approximately 150 yards and that was sitting along a tree line overlooking a field. I never walked it off but I missed with one shot from my scoped .30-06 using a 150 grain Remington Corelokt round. Most of the shots afforded me are in the woods on the side of a gradual sloped mountain, not over 50 yards, or in and around swamps and laurels and there it is fairly close cover.

Our range has up to 250 yds. However I have only shot the 100 yd. With my Big Boy open factory sights I can get on paper at 100 yds off hand standing. But it's so windy here 90% of the time any distance longer would be tough. Maybe the 1860 original with the ladder sights would go to 250, I'll try it when I get one.

One of the ranges I visit goes out to 1000 yards. I occasionally shoot old service rifles out to 600 yards, but normally I only shoot up to 100 yards.

Most of the time I shoot 25 to 50 yards plinking with pistols levers and blackpowder rifles. I also shoot an AR occasionally. I use to shoot out to 1000 yards with Shiloh's in blackpowder cartridge shooting. Al
