Home on the range with the Liberty Single Six

Being able to shoot in the backyard between doctor and rehab visits for my husband has helped me to keep my sanity this summer. That said, I need to shoot single action revolvers on a regular basis to keep my sanity, anyway.

Today was a session with one of my favorites, a New Model Liberty Single Six, the Liberty meaning it was made in 1976 and like all Rugers made that year, this Single Six got the bicentennial stamp. (Also, since it was made prior to 1978, there is no instruction warning stamped on the barrel.)

I added a red dot at some point, just for some accuracy testing and meant to take it back off and stay with the iron sights, but never got around to it.

For this afternoon's shooting session with this Single Six, I figured the red dot would give me too much an advantage, so I decided to just use a 2" bull at 12 yards instead of the larger targets I have been using.

As always, when revolver shooting, I don't use a rest (I really hate shooting revolvers from a rest, just ain't natural), but I did alternate between sitting and standing. These old bones do a need a rest, sometimes.

The Liberty SS did great, though. Darn near shot out the center of the target. Maybe it was me having a good day or maybe it was the red dot or maybe I got a good batch of the Colibri, but the Single Six and I were in a single action kind of groove.

That is a great grouping with colibri's. Good for you. You must maintain, or try to, your sanity.

Those red dots are almost like cheating, almost.

Great shooting with a wonderful firearm!

Nice NCG. Red dots and for me green dots are becoming more and more frequent on my guns. I just ordered a new one I found on amazon that looks really nice for the price. Its supposed to be here tomorrow. I will let you know what I think. Ive gotta believe if these dots were available way back when they would have been used

You’re having a nice run with the Colibri’s between the Liberty and your flat latch pre 34. Nice to shoot at home and still have the satisfaction of good groups. A must for us firearm folks.

Thanks, everyone. Appreciate it. Hope you folks can get to for some shooting, too.
