Range Report: it’s been awhile

Post by Sir Henry » Thu Jun 12, 2025 8:36 am

With so much work to do around the homestead I seldom get to shoot. This morning I broke that and shot four 15 round mags in the Charger Mare’s Leg. It’s a shame I’ve made it so easy to shot but seldom do.

I really do miss the challenge of shooting paper.

That work will always be there Gene but the shooting wont.

Know the feeling. It is hot humid and wet Summer around here now and just trying to keep the grass cut at my range is a BIG challenge! Going to try and get there tomorrow Friday in the morning but the humidity will be fun! No shooting time tomorrow! :( Glad you got a chance to shoot!

So glad to hear that you took a break from all that work to do some shooting. I've been working hard this summer, too, with stuff around the yard and my trails, but I still manage to do a little shooting almost every day. Sometimes it's only 5 or 10 shots, but just that little plinking does wonders for my peace of mind.

That’s what I was doing too. If I shoot its first thing in the morning. Once I start work I don’t stop.

Today I did about 15 shots with my old, 1980s vintage RWS Diana Model 45 springer. The old trooper of a springer went 15 for 15 on the steel. Very pleased.

Good job Gene, I missed this afternoon, then decided on wanted to slinging some heavy stuff. Some 320 + gr over a mild load of 2400.
Easy on the shoulder, but heck even on the thick heavy gongs at 50 yds.
I got nine off between the two, the ole mother nature stepped in and started raining on my parade. :o

I'm hoping to shoot some tomorrow, if the weather cooperates. We have had so much rain that the mud has made the range unsafe. If we are spared rain tonight, I might just get out in the morning. I have a number of guns calling my name, including a 44 mag I need to shoot.

We have rain in the forecast for six of the next seven days.

About the same here Gene, but I can at least, if I want.
Can shoot from the covered deck.

I'm itching to get out with the Heritage Rough Rider and try out some .22mag. Maybe tomorrow (Fri).

I had that in Woodinville Randy. I had an outside covered kitchen and could cook breakfast or lunch while shooting. Here my back porch is covered but it’s small and if there is any wind I get wet. It’s raining right now and it’s wet.

My son and I cleaned out the overhanging branches on my range this week. But I've not had a chance to go out and shoot. I'm looking forward to testing my new rifles out.

I put one of the 3x prisms on my New Smith and Wesson 1854 44mag, and the other I put on my Henry BBX 45 colt. I'll put the 1-8 LVPO from the BBX 45 colt on the marlin 336 that is going to be rebored to 375, and the new 1-8 FFP LVPO on the H009x 3030.

Call from son last night. We'll be shooting Sunday afternoon for a while. I might still shoot the Rough RIder today though.
