Can't blame my rifles
About a week ago I missed two squirrels that I really thought I should have killed fairly easy. One fox squirrel I missed twice.
This was using my Ruger Predator 22 Mag. which is a decent shooter. Another I muffed the shot with my 452 CZ FS 22 Mag. and that one headed to the next zip code and was not seen again. So I got to thinking maybe these rifles were off a little so I went home and got my bags and targets and also loaded up another rifle I hunt with to check it to. It is the CZ FS 17 HMR. I got to the range and had it to myself so I put up the target and shot the Ruger first. It was a little low and left but didn't look bad enough to miss that big Fox squirrel that had a head big as a tennis ball.
So I moved it up and right and it was better but not perfect so I moved it more right and the last two shots were good enough. Then I shot the CZ 22 Mag. and three went in the same hole less than a bullet hole left of center and I left that one alone. I then shot the CZ HMR and at 50 yds. I keep it at the bottom of the bull and that is where it still was hitting. So I have only myself to blame now and not my rifles. Maybe I need to put bulls eyes on the squirrels where I hunt as I seem to hit bulls eyes better.
So I folded up my target and put it in my pocket and headed back home knowing they are shooting well and it is all up to me. Here is the target from the three rifles. Shot at 50yds. from a range you fire standing but it is set up to use bags. All were three shots except the Ruger was four. Check out the three shots at the center target from my CZ FS 452 22 Magnum using Hornady V-Max ammo. This rifle amazes me how it shoots.
I really seem to have better luck on squirrels with my Sako 222 and I don't think I missed a squirrel with it so far this season. It is just a little louder blast than I like in some places I hunt.

Re: Can't blame my rifles
My picture didn't post. I hate Photobucket. It took for ever to get the picture copied. The first thing that came up was I could try a bra for a day FREE. I don't need a bra for today I needed it yesterday.
So maybe it will post this time.

Dang squirrels have been trained in the art of duck and cover.
Maybe if you wear the bra they will think you aren't dressed as a hunter. Or they will be so busy laughing that you can pick them off before they see the rifle.

I don't think squirrels can buy lottery tickets.............bandit1250 wrote:About a week ago I missed two squirrels that I really thought I should have killed fairly easy. One fox squirrel I missed twice.![]()
If you think about it, things like this happen in life/sports all the time; that serve that felt perfect when you hit it but was 6" long

It's well known that squirrels are intelligent little critters, so it's quite possible that they've developed deflection shields to keep those annoying little bits of lead from spoilng their day.

Maybe a shot gun so I have multiple projectiles in the air for each shot.Sir Henry wrote:Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.ditto1958 wrote:Need to find bigger squirrels to shoot at.I was going to suggest artillery.

The military has a full-auto shotgun. Maybe Santa will bring you one.bandit1250 wrote:Maybe a shot gun so I have multiple projectiles in the air for each shot.Sir Henry wrote:Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.ditto1958 wrote:Need to find bigger squirrels to shoot at.I was going to suggest artillery.
