An absolutely gorgeous summer-like day at 70F.

Put 20 rounds of Winchester 250 gr LFN 45 Colt thru the revolver today. Still working on my grip, as you can see I'm high on several. Gun shot great, very smooth. Love the 8" barrel when she's smoking.

This is at 15 yds, one hand. Might be time for a clean again, that makes about 75 rounds through it since last cleaning. I have no idea how often to clean rifle or revolver, and just do it when I think it needs it. Photo is a bit blurry, cell phone must be dirty too from cattle pics last week.

I wonder about your revolver's screws. On my Uberti 1873 Cattleman (Taylors & Co. SmokeWagon .357), I've had to tighten many of them after each outing, especially the ejector assembly screw. Have you had to do that?

Nice shooting! As far as how often you need to clean a gun is an open debate. 75 rounds isn't much. I put quite a few hundred of my own hand loads thru a new Ruger Super Blackhawk before its first cleaning. The bore still looked pretty clean. I was using a fast burning powder and plated bullets which left almost no residue in the bore. I am sure it could have gone thousands of rounds without an issue or any reduction in accuracy.


I have had to tighten the screws on my Ruger Super Blackhawks quite often, particularly the ejector assembly screw. I now use blue Loctite on all the screws, but still check them regularly.

*just checked the screws, they were a tiny bit loose so I just tightened them up. Maybe they were like that when I got it. But I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks.
