11/1/16_Range Report_Fall is Fading

This is a Range Report from my time spent today at my friend's range, Poverty Knob, about 25 miles north of KCMO.
[I wish I knew how to enlarge my photos, but I don't. So please click on them for the big view!]
Although I'm posting some targets and comments about shooting my Benelli 20-gauge PUMP, it really is more a look at "fall fading away." Got some new pictures at Poverty Knob (PK), and a few new pictures of PUMP to show you. The day was beautiful, and fall colors are still hanging on. It was a pleasant 71* as I drove the country roads to Poverty Knob, and there are many very nice-looking country homesteads on the way. A lot of leaves are on the ground, but enough were left to please the eyes as I drove by.
I'm also thinking that this is the last Range Report I will post this year, and start up again in 2017. To be honest, I'm a little weary of looking at these homemade, re-shot, re-done, pasted, wrinkled, patched & pitiful targets I use over and over again.....aren't you?!?
And between now and 2017, I'd like to figure out how to either make (or egads) buy some better targets. Shall see what comes about.
I opened the gate at PK, and enjoyed looking at my friend's fall color-filled property.
Range Pictures
White, rectangular target board is in the center; to its right is a white target I nailed to the tree. Distance is about 45 yards.
My favorite spot to shoot at the target boards -- in between the tree branches at about 55 yards.
New PUMP Photos
My friends like to put antiques and "old stuff" in their yard and on their large porch.
I took some shots of PUMP posing with these decos.
Targets
I nailed two targets to trees.
I shot off hand at 21 yards and 35 yards using rifled slugs. Shot 5 round groups at both, using Herters 3/4oz. 2-3/4" Rifled Slug, 1350 FPS.
Both groups show 4/5 hits, and the other two slugs stayed behind in the trees.
Apples & Stumps
Other than these two targets, I also shot hedge apples lined up on tree stumps, using Herters Target Loads 7/8oz. 2-3/4" #8 shot. That was just plain 'ole fun
watching those apples roll around off the stumps from 15-20 yards distance.
Target Noise
Finally, I shot at a black steel plate on the target board from about 40 yards using Brenneke KO Slugs, 3/4oz.2-1/4"; 1550 FPS at muzzle, and drops to 1180 FPS at 50 yards. This is very quality ammo. But I only hit the target 2/5 at this distance. More practice coming!
Probably my next visit to PK, there will be that white stuff on the ground!
Have a great day!
