300 Blackout optic challenged.

I have a Ruger AR in 300 Blackout that’s a great shooter. With some great advice from BigAl I worked up a very accurate but stout load. But I went cheap when I scoped it using a Bushnell AR-223 1-4X. Not only is 4x not powerful enough for me but the reticle is calibrated in mils which I don’t care for. I bought the scope from Optics Planet and their posting showed MOA adjustments. I called them asking for a replacement and was told the scope was only available in mils and their page was out of date. If fairness to them they offered a full refund which I declined as I wanted to shoot the rifle. Wish I had sent it back.

Anyway, I hadn’t zeroed the scope until yesterday as all my previous efforts with this rifle were load devolvement and the scope was on paper fine for that. Started out firing five shots to reacquaint myself with it and those five are the upper left group. Then cussing and storming I tried and failed to remember how may mils were in an inch or how many inches were in a mil. So I did 10 clicks (.1mil) down and 10 to the right. Tada, looks like about 3” to a mil which tickled my memory a little. Brought the windage back to the left 8 clicks and I’m where I want to be.

While I can get 100+ yards from my target unfortunately the drop off of the road is too much and I can’t see the target at 100. So I am limited to 75 yards for now and this work was done at that yardage.

I really hate this scope and plan to put some effort into replacing it soon. Buy once…..you know the rest.

Oh another funny CRS story. Put the rifle to my shoulder and couldn’t get good eye relief. I’m thinking what moron mounted this scope and then I remembered I added about an inch to the stock with a slip on recoil pad. Duh  Clicked the adjustable stock in one click and yeah baby!

Looks good Hatch. 300 is a fun round to play with. Mine was a bolt gun and if it would have been an AR I probably would have kept it.
