Handgun day at the range

Yesterday I did a little handgun shooting. I have a CZ 75b that is going to become my woods carry using the G9 Woodsman ammo. First time I shot this ammo it grouped fine for elevation but was left a few inches. So yesterday I planned to drift the rear sight to accommodate this. Fired my first group and it was perfect for windage and elevation. Huh? Shot groups with my XTP and Berrys plated reloads and both grouped to the left. Huh? Shot another group with the G9 and again it was perfect. Huh? Regardless all shots are in predator killing POI.

Then I shot my Mk IV as I wanted to sight it in at 25 yards. I had only shot it at 15 previously doing ammo tests. Only had to make a windage adjustment.

Whew, now that all the work is over I decided to have some fun with the 686. Sadly this awful junk POS of a revolver didn’t get a bowling strike like the Henry did. Shot the pins at 15 paces standing off hand and thankfully it has the seven shot cylinder as it took all seven to hit five pins. This was with my 38 spec plated bullet hand load. Decided it couldn’t be the shooter and that it must have been the powder puff 38 loads. So I then filled the cylinder with seven of my full power XTP-HP loads and guess what, again it took seven to hit five.

About this time the wind came up, the sky got dark and the forecast thunder storm seemed to be arriving. Packed up and went back to camp only to have a sunny pleasant afternoon. Figures

Nice job Hatch. Love those CZ's and 686's. I have a CZ p09 and a SP 01 tactical. They are both great guns. Did a trigger job on the 09 and it cut the single action pull down to 2 lbs. With 19 round mag and one in the hole gives you alot of fire power.

My CZ has the best semi-auto trigger I’ve ever had. Love the DA/SA actions these pistols have. Every time I fire it I am amazed at how nice it is out of the box.

Very nice. I'd be glad to take that lousy 686 off your hands. :)

If I ever go back to semi-auto, the CZ 75 is high on my list. I can't ever remember reading a bad report on it.

Hatch with your 686 is it also shooting left or just random hits and not grouping? I had trouble with my S&W Model 69 and finally saw the barrel/front sight is canted slightly to the left but I adjusted the rear sight to compensate.

Not sure as I haven’t shot it on paper for a long time. I’ll check it next time. Like most righty’s when I shoot double action I tend to pull to the left and low. This weekends shooting was all single action.
