Henry Frontier 22 Long barrel zero attempt

Post by Steve51 » Thu Apr 04, 2024 4:11 pm

Picked up the 2023 Christmas give away rifle Tuesday (pictures posted on other threads) The weather has been too rainy to get out and shoot it.
Cold and a light drizzle this morning, so could not wait any longer. I replaced the buckhorn sight with a Marbles bullseye ghost ring sight that I had in my parts bin.

It was a rushed & damp outing, so shooting was not from a bench rest. Just trying to get close to a zero. At 15 yds I was putting the top of the front bead sight in a 6 o'clock hold. Used 6 o'clock hold for the first 3 shots at 25 yds, then took 5 shots with the bead covering the target.

The long octagon barrel rifle shoots great but even with the rear sight at its highest setting, I was still shooting low. The barrel on this rifle is tapped with 2 holes near the receiver, so I have ordered a Skinner sight to mount there. Hopefully it will work with the front sight I have.

It looks like you will be able to work it up. Good luck.

For more adjustment...
"...the rear sight contains a white diamond insert for fine-tuning height adjustment. This part is held in place by a screw. Loosen the screw to the right of the white diamond, raise or lower as needed to correct elevation, then re-tighten the screw."

This is true, but reread his post. He changed out the factory rear sight with a Ghost ring. ;)

I received my Skinner barrel mount sight today. I had also replaced the front bead sight with a partridge type sight and filed it down to 0.37" height.
I wanted to be about a 1/2" high at 25 yds to be close to dead on at 50 yds with the CCI ammo that I prefer to use. I was shooting at my range that is in some woods that I own, so not shooting from a bench or rest.

Glad you are getting dialed in. Good looking sights. And great the shrooms are coming in. We are about 2 weeks away here.

Looks like you got that 22 Lever shooter dialed in now! Love the ghost ring type sights for the old eyes but some buck horn sights still work okay for me like the one on my original old Winchester 92.
