Neighbor gave me his stash of Halloween pumpkins to dispose of and decided to use my Uberti 1873 44 Mag carbine and Henry 357 rifle as the disposers.
Would also compare the damage done between the 180 gr XTP .44 Mag load that is really moving at around 2100+ FPS and 180 hard cast MB Pug plus 125 gr. XTP 357 Mag loads.
Two of the small 4-5 inch pumpkins where instantly vaporized into orange mist with one shot of the 180 gr. 44 mag from 30 ft. with debris scattered in a 50 ft. circle....yeah I got hit too! as you see in picture where two missing pumpkins were. Then a shot of same on the larger pumpkin took out a huge chunk of it on the side with a split of the rest in half and more debris in the air. Man the 44 Mag 180 XTP blows up most things!
Next I wanted to see what a 125 gr. 357 XTP would do to the next similar sized pumpkin shot out of the Henry rifle. Not near the damage of the 44 Mag but made an impressive entry and exit hole. Then a 180 gr. MB cast Pug load was up next and although the entry hole was larger than the 125 XTP...the 125 had a larger exit hole as you can see. To finish up I loaded up a cylinder of the 357 Pugs in my S&W 686 with 3 inch barrel and tried to shoot the stem off what was left of a pumpkin from 30 feet. 2 shots fired and the stem still there with no movement of anything. Must have missed I thought as I walked up to look. Well I was greated with a nice hole in center of stem and one half a hole in left side of it....NICE !
After all the fun the pumpkin remains were put in a bucket and scattered along a trail where the deer like to gather....a treat for everybody today!
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Still trying to figure out why that stem did not break off after two hits of those 180 gr. Pugs? Those things rock the steel good !
