Went to the range today with my Marlin 444P, first time shooting since I got it during Winter. Perfect day all alone at the range. Had some handloads with Fiocchi 240gr JSP they shot great didnt have to adjust sight anything on my skinner sight. Shot at 25meters offhand supported the elbow against the wall just to get a feeling of it, this small rifle is a hard hitter, recoil is comparable with a 9,3x62 Mauser. Didnt have any chrono just wanted to see how it felt and it felt good, a little learning curve like not babying the lever with the longer pull. Also made a small loadladder with my homecast NOE 267gr RNFP GC bullets sized to .432, just to see if it was leading. And it was no leading at all, the bullet needs to be driven harder I think. yet again no chrono so its just on gutfeeling. Will be loading up a new ladder in the upper part of the loadingtable and make some patterns with 5shot groups. Also need to try at different range have a feeling the will hit higher at longer range.

First cast 267gr load did shoot low and was spread no success there stepped up to the highest load where it started to look alot better, pictures below just 2shots to step up the load to check for pressure, leading and such at the end it started to look pretty good. Each picture is 0,5grain more charge. POA is 1" below middle. Last serie I adjusted the sights a bit and aimed in the middle to move the POI. Will be trying out last load with 5 shot serie, and step 0,5-1grain to see the difference, just need to borrow a chrono to know how hot the load is before I continue.

So after the shoulderbeating I loaded up my S&W 17-2, had some pretty bad series before I was in tune with the revolver. :) shooting one handed at 25meters. Pictures below I finished with a 47p and stopped with a positive feeling.

That sounds like an awesome day. I remember back in the late 90's when those marlins were out. I wanted a 450 marlin guide gun in stainless something fierce.
