Was I polite?

Seems like a handful, but, probably fine in the rifle. Shoots good. How'd they feel?

Yep that is a good load right there and about max for using Unique. From there 2400 for the rifle up to a max Ruger load.

I don't think I've ever tried 2400 in the 45's.

I loaded up some 2400 in .45 Colt for the rifle. 14.0gr/250gr rnfp coated. Accurate and comfortable in the Henry, but, a little sporty in the handgun.
It seemed fine, I'll save the 2400 for .357 loads. Seems to work better there. Unique and Red Dot for the .45 Colt. Universal for the .45 acp.

I use the 2400 for the hotter 45 loads in the Ruger Bisley BH and Alaskan and it works well in a rifle too. There are other slower powders that work also.
However Unique is great in 45 Colt for mid and upper range. Red Dot sweet for a nice slower plinking.

Good shooting! Out of the BBS I've chrono'ed 8.2 of Unique with cast 255's and got 1135 fps. and 9.3 of Unique under a 250 gr. XTP averaged just under 1200 fps. I'd guess you're in the mid 1300's with 10 grains of Unique and a 255 gr.

Unique and Red dot are what I use in the 45's, that is with cast which is about all I shoot.
Come to think of it last year sometime I did play with some xtp's after I saw where you mentioned shooting some.
I believe I used 2400 with those.

I don't know as I don't own a chrony.
I've never been a speed demon when it comes to reloading, I'm just looking for accuracy.

Nice shooting Randy. That same load will work in 44 mag. 2400 is the Rodney Dangerfield of those bigger caliber. Check out some Elmer Keith loads 2400 was one of his favorites

Great thread!
I've been using 8 grains of unique for my 45 colt standard loads and I've been very happy.
2400 is my go-to powder for my deer hunting loads. 250 grain xtp with 19 grains of 2400. Very accurate for me and has put a lot of venison in the freezer.

I love Unique but during the last 3 years it has not been available around here in middle Georgia.
