I had wanted to test the 45-70 caliber for a long time with hornady bullets, reputed to greatly improve the ballistics of this venerable caliber.
Until now, shooting 200 m (218.7 yards) was possible, but painful with 405 grain fn lead bullets, or even 300 grs hp lead .
I therefore tested by shortening the standard brass from 2.105 to 2.040 inches, and a COAL of 2.590 inches. and a 325 gr FTX "leverevolution" hornady bullet.
With 48 grains of Vihtavuori N130, the recoil is quite soft, and in four shots the adjustment of the scout burris scope is done!
a real pleasure !
target black circle width is 60 cm (7.87 inches)
Next test, same ammo, same rifle/optic, at 300 m, to see how many clicks will be needed to correct the ballistic drop...
