300 Hamr

Went to shoot my AR in 300Hamr this morning to dial in my gas block so it would only throw my cases about three feet. The weather was warm but windy and my target was moving pretty good on the plastic fences that we are supposed to hang are targets on. I put together this rifle with a Wilson Combat 18" SS barrel, a Timney trigger and whatever I had in between. I read an article in the American Rifleman that the 300Hamr is the most versatile AR cartridge and i cannot argue with that. The options for the Hamr run between 110grn Lehigh controlled chaos bullet at 2600fps for home defense to a 150grn Speer soft point boat tail at 2300fps for big game.
Even though the wind was moving my target around i was able to get some decent groups at 50yds.

Very nice shooting. I have a friend who purchased a 300HAMM'r barrel for his AR from Wilson and it also is a very accurate rig. Congrats, now you have the pleasure of trying to wear it out. Those are the only bug holes I like looking at. Not trying to start anything but, I have to agree that from a hunting standpoint, the 300HAMM'r offers slightly more than the BlackOut. Might make the difference, might not.

Randy it was developed by Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat. Its basically a stretched 300 Blackout. The parent case is a 223 and its 1.6 inches long vs 1.3 for the BO. Its more accurate they say and faster. Its another round developed for the AR platform. I didnt check but coming from Wilson I have no doubt its more money than I could afford or would want to spend.

Wilson Combat is somewhat pricey but all you need for a build is the barrel. I don't think $250 is not a bad price for a match grade barrel. I put mine together several years ago when it was still a wildcat. I bought my barrel on sale for just under two bills and paid almost that much for the trigger, everything else was bargain basement. The ballistics are almost identical to the 30-30 for 150grn bullets or lighter. Bill wanted to call it the 30-30 AR but got talked out of it by someone in sales.
The draw back at this time is the only way to buy loaded ammo is through Wilson Combat. It is easy and cheap to reload. I bought my dies from Lee and buy any 125grrn 308 blem bullet that is on sale at Midway. It is possible to make brass for it from .223 cases but is a real pain so after making 20 cases I just gave up purchased the brass.
Left to right 300Hamr, 300BO, .556
