Well finally got this little 1872 44 Open Top revolver project done with the new 3 inch barrel. Turned out very well and will still have the original 7.5 barrel to swap on when needed for longer range shooting.
With no front sight it is for close up work and it shot very well from 8 ft point shooting and firing from my left side hip area. It would do the job for belly blasting if needed!
Also tried my luck hitting steel targets from 13 yards and I could get some good hits in with a few misses too.
A fun little project and great carry gun for a close quarters peace keeper.
While down at the range I checked on my trail cameras and had 160 videos on one of them since December 27th and the creek was running well too!
Great day to get out in January!
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Nice shooting Forty. Looks like that belly gun works perfectly for the job. Hitting steel plates at 13 yards is amazing. I'd say you have a winner there.

I pity the belly that threatens you, nice shooting with that little guy.

Re: 44 Special short barrel Belly Blaster shots.....
Thanks Hatch! I had some fun shooting that thing and put 40-50 rounds thru it and everthing functioned well. The cylinder gap stayed put at .005 and the cylinder end clearence stayed at a nice .001 or just enough for smooth rotation without noticeable end play...the wedge stayed put. No leading at all in the bore after shooting the lead bullets which come from Matt's Bullets. Have some 250 gr. full wadcutters coming soon.
I'm thinking of stripping the glossy urethane coating off the grip and doing a Danish oil finish on it along with removing the clear coat off the brass grip frame.
