45/70 Lite Load Test

Post by Greyhawk » Tue Nov 29, 2022 6:31 pm

Went out to the range tonight to test my 45-70 light loads that I had posted about in the reloading thread. These are loaded with 12 grains of Unique pushing a 405 grain Missouri Bullet Company bullet with their Hi-Tek coating. (#1 Buffalo). I shot both my open sight Henry and my Scoped Marlin. First Pic the rifles and the rounds. The second pic is the open sighted Henry at 50 yards. (I have a heck of a time seeing... Time for glasses I think!) The third picture is from the scoped Marlin at 50 yards. The fourth picture is 4 shots from the scoped Marlin at 100 yards (Great group but about 7 inches low from the 50-yard group) and the fifth picture are my full power rounds from the Marlin at 100 yards (350 Grain Hornady's, 55.2 grains of H4895).
The light loads were very very pleasant to shoot. and while they weren't quiet, they were much quieter than the full power rounds.

Yep, a pistol/shotgun powder that works in several rifles as well.
