I only took my two single action revolvers to the range today. I shot 50 rounds each. I used M-22s in the HRR and a new handload in the SmokeWagon.

I just bought 8 lbs of Unique and this is the first time using it to reload .357 magnums with 130 grain FMJ bullets. I was pleasantly surprised. I used data from Lee's 2nd Edition for 135 grain XTPs, staying above the lowest, but at the lower end of the recommended scale.

The powder burned much cleaner than any of the others I have used (HP-38, Universal, and H110). I'd read so much about how dirty Unique used to be, but also that it has been reformulated to make it cleaner. They did a great job! It is clean. I had been concerned about buying so much, but not anymore. After today, I can say that I really like it and want to try other bullets and weights with it.

I shot standing, off hand at 25 feet. I shot five rounds from each gun, alternating between them and using only two targets. Two shots from the HRR were off the paper, but all fifty of the handloads hit the 8.5x11 paper, though too many were off the 6 inch target.

Getting a little tough to count the .357 rounds, CT...they've almost obliterated a good central part of the target!!
The HRR POIs look pretty darn good, too. Good shooting again.

I find it interesting on how you regularize and alternate between the revolvers. I have difficulty doing that. I tend to really concentrate on the sighting and DA trigger pull when I shoot my revolver, and think handling two different handguns would put me in left field. But I think I'll have to try some range time and alternate firearms like that. Sounds interesting, and at the moment, a little challenging to me.

Actually, I only do it that way to allow the guns to cool a bit before shooting again, but I understand how concentrating on the sight and trigger of a single gun would be helpful, rather than alternating like I do. I also alternate between the rifle and the revolver when I'm shooting either .22s or .357s, which may not be as interruptive as between the two handguns. Those centerfire guns do get hot, though.

Thanks, Henry88. I'm encouraged to think I might be improving by increments. Today was a huge improvement over my most recent targets, which I did not post because they were so awful and I have a bit too much pride (over the months I have already posted some pretty dismal results, so you can only imagine how bad they were). But, today was better than then and I was pleased by it.

Nice shooting, CT. That Uberti does pretty well wipe out that one are on the target.

I think you could have handled the OK Corral without the Earps. Great shooting.

Glad you got in some gunpowder therapy. I still need a big brother for my .22 single action. One in .357 is on my list, I don't hand load yet but it would give me an excuse to start.

A new single action centerfire caliber would be the perfect excuse to start handloading, which is the ying to shooting's yang. Together, they combine to complete a great hobby.
