Colt 45 X model made my day!

Post by fortyshooter » Fri Jul 22, 2022 2:28 pm

Knowing it was to be another day of heat and humidity I got down to my range around 9:30 this morning to get the first shots thru the
Henry X 45.
First shots fired were my 255 gr. Xtreme bullets with 6 gr. of Red Dot from 25 yds. Even with suppressor on which was for all shots it was right on
target! I then tried the same bullet with 7.5 Unique and those were a touch low and scattered to the right.

By now that HOT morning sun was working on me and with sweat into eyes with fogging glasses I continued moving on to the Hornady 250 gr XTP
bullet load with 8.0 gr. Unique and moved back to 35 yds from my 25 yd. line and shooting from a kneeling position.
WOW look at that tight group! Very pleased with that and that will be the defense load! Also tried 3 of my Speer 250 gr. Gold Dot loads with same 8.0 gr. Unique and they were right there also but not as tight which could have been me. Why is that sun so dang hot even though the temp was 83F ?
With a drippy wet shirt now I loaded up more Red Dot loads and hit the swinging plates and the big gong way down range. Man what a sound off that
is from those 255 gr. chunks of 45 lead! The sound from the Carbine was nice and quiet and of course no blowback like from a semi-auto pistol with a suppressor. Think the Red Dot load will be the plinker and the XTP Unique load the keeper for self defense with the Banish suppressor attached.
Got home and removed the suppressor and opened the action and was surprised to see how clean it was inside after the 40 rounds I managed to shoot today. Much cleaner than the action of my HiPoint 45 auto Carbine or the 1911 when running the suppressor. A quick run thru with the bore snake and a bit of oil and be good to go!
Really pleased with the new X Model in 45 Colt as everything functioned right and the sights seem to work really well with my eyes!

Now back to load up more food for this new beast!

Nice report Forty. Looks like that X model is performing very well. From your results, on those targets, that Henry is on the money and most certainly a keeper. Should be a fun gun at the range and with that Banish it is definitely a good home defense platform. I love the looks of the wood stocks much better that the blackout synthetic.

Yeah, the wood looks very nice. Forty, that 6.0 RD/250gr coated rnfp is becoming a favorite in my .45 Colt anything. Clean burning accurate load.
Goodshooting forty! Take a shower and have a cold one.[Beer] 8-)
