Back yard fun.

Post by Vaquero » Sun Jun 26, 2022 2:21 pm

Mostly just some gong ringing in the back yard.
After I mowed this morning and the wife is away πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ I decided to drag the 44 out since it's been a minute since the last time it's been out.
Some 240 gr Smashers from Missouri bullet co. and 9.0 grs of unique. Was consistently hitting the 3" and easy on the larger ones.
So I tacked up this paper, offhand at 50 yds.
I expected better but the paper don't lie.🀣

I also brought out the 444P, it's loaded with a 320+ gr. WFN over 24.o grs. of 2400.
Now I can load these in the magazine and cycle into the chamber, but if I do I have to shoot 'em, because loaded they won't eject.πŸ˜―πŸ€πŸ˜‰πŸ˜.
Anyway it was a little bit of fun but it's warming up out there now.
Both loads sure ring the Big gong.

Randy, what other loads you going to try in the Henry? Maybe 2400 or IMR 4227? Shooting from the porch gotta be fun!

May try some 2400, in the previous barrel a 240 gr xtp over 17.9 grs 2400 was pretty much a ragged hole at 40 yds.
Haven't tried it in this one yet.
I don't have 4227, I've never used it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I understand Al, and I hadn't shot much in the past month, and just had an itch. :o
Still sitting on a fair amount of primers, plus quite a bit of already primed brass. ;)

Same deal with me as far as hitting the steel easy but the paper targets don't show it all the time. Anyway a good time plinking the steel Randy!
9 gr. Unique is an all around good shooting load in 44 Mag and 45 Colt too.

Nice Randy. Glad to see you doing some shooting. This primer situation is really impacting the reloading community. Sure you can track down some factory ammo, but prices are high and you just can't shoot as much.

Tom, yes shootin off the back porch is a Blast, :o  Hey and the loading bench is only a half a dozen steps away. :D

Forty, the 9.0 grs. is a nice moderate load for both. Still have 50 more of these 44's loaded. ;) Still gettitn used to the cheap peep. ;)
I have shot up to 10.0 grs in both in certain firearms.
Out of the 44 Vaquero with a 240 gr cast put a nice buck flat on the ground from 20-25 yds. one afternoon. ;)

Paul, all the primers I'm shooting are luckily from quite a while back thankfully, with still a pretty good reserve.
I did just a couple mons. back pick up an extra 1k of spp for a clean $100, which of the 4 types that I use is the lowest.

Glad you were able to make some noise Randy. Being able to shoot in your own backyard is a blast.
