Good shooting. And as to trying to find a good pistol, yep. I tried for awhile to find a single ten. Finally did find one new in the box for a pretty good price. Small LGS in Pennsylvania. Tons of Wranglers out there but I wanted a bit better revolver. So you are 100% right about finding a decent revolver.

So - good find and congratulations!! And again, real good shooting with that fixed sight wheel gun.

Thanks. Things are tough right now for us single action revolver fans. Production of revolvers has been in decline for a long time and single actions are even a lower priority than double actions for the revolver makers. Getting hard to even find Uberti/Pietta single actions, what with all the supply and transport issues. I do understand that gun makers have to place priorities where the sale are, however, and that's definitely not single action revolvers. Bottom line is that if you find a SA revolver you like, don't think too long about it. :)

Glad you found a Ten. When you get a good one, they can be very accurate and you can't wear out a Ruger Single Six/Ten.

You reminded me of one of those "Wish I Had Never Sold It," guns.

Back in the early 80s, I had one of the Ruger Single Six convertible .22/.22 Magnum Single Actions. It was a Special little gun, with "Made in the 200th Year of our Nation's History" engraved on the barrel and a flag and 1776 - 1976 engraved on both cylinders. There were other touches or flourishes elsewhere on the little gun. I bought it lightly used, no box, no paperwork, so it was a shooter.

I had bought a house in NC outside the Air Base, and rented a spare room to a couple of my fellow Marines. We did a lot of shooting. One of them was leaving the Corps, going back to work the family farm. He loved that little Ruger and wanted to take it with him back to Missouri.

"Not for Sale," I kept telling him. "They sell brand new Ruger Single Sixes in the exchange."

He wanted that one, and had cashed in his unused leave, the matched savings program, had his travel money. He kept adding to his offer.

I held my ground. "Not for Sale."

He kept upping his offer. Sheesh, I guess nearly everything is for Sale.

Looking back, I should have kept it.

Those bicentennial Rugers with the 1776 stamping are called "liberty" Rugers by those who collect them. They do add a little to the value, though not a lot, unless you find the right buyer. What I especially like about those mid to late 70s Single Sixes is that Ruger had just changed over to the New Models and many of them were very nicely done. In fact, the 70s and 80s were very good years for Ruger single actions.

I wasn't worried about collector value... We shot it a lot. It just was one of those guns that shot well. My 70s Colt Diamondback 22 is the same way. All my kids learned to shoot with that gun. It's accurate, sweet trigger, and beautiful to boot. It's not going anywhere until I do, then my oldest daughter gets it. :D

I've had plenty of those great shooters in my time, but I've also let too many of them go, too. Can't complain, though, because what I have left are all good shooters, includng this latest Bearcat.

I bought one of the Bicentennial Models in the .357 and spare 9mm cylinders. That was my first magnum revolver. It shoots to where it's aimed every time. That gun has been with me hunting in 5 states and countless road trips. This will be passed on to one of the kids or G'kids.

Love the Ruger Blackhawks. Great single actions.
