Silent Ruger 1911 range fun.......

Post by fortyshooter » Sun May 29, 2022 4:38 pm

Well I was very well surprised today with how well my Ruger 1911 Cmd 45 ran with the new Nighthawk threaded barrel and with the Banish 45 suppressor attached! Paper targets were set at 8 yds. and first round was with the new barrel only. Results were it was on target and no function issues
at all. Then I screwed the Banish 45 on and with a new target shot rounds expecting point of impact to be off. Well the thing was still right on target and no cycling issues with the suppressor attached. It went on this way for the rest of the shooting session of 70 rounds!

Then did a short video of what it might sound like fired from inside my small cabin with suppressor on. https://youtu.be/mEpFn4Ex1Co
As you can see and hear it worked very well with no ringing ears...just a muted thump.

Next a lot of fun hammering the steel with the 230 gr. 45 slugs and as you can see and really hear the ring of the steel over the muted sound of the round going off. https://youtu.be/YtyQXhCmxes

And before calling it a well done day I wanted to try my Self Defense 230 gr. XTP loads and see how the suppressor might affect those. Note also the front sight is right at the top edge of the suppressor body so shot placement might be difficult. So I set up the torso target again and was surprised with a nice group of three shoots...ragged hole just below my aim point. These were a bit faster loads than my target rounds so may that had some input but no problem getting the job done from 8 yds or 24 ft. bad guy distance! No problem hitting the steel using a 12 o'clock hold with the front sight.

Looks like the Ruger 1911 is a perfect match with the Banish 45 suppressor for a nightstand gun!

Oh and I should remember to use my shirt when checking a hot silencer for tightness on the barrel!!!

Good shooting. What holster do you use for EDC?

Well I haven't been using the Ruger 1911 for carry use for a while choosing my Springfield XDE 45 or the Rock Island "Fat Boy" 1911.
For the XDE it is a form fitted Master's Holster ISWB or inside my back pocket and a Galco leather holster for the Fat Boy.

Very good shooting with the sights mostly obscured. Silencer works well.

That suppressor does the job well on the Ruger. You can really hear the steel ring, but the noise from the 1911 is hardly noticeable. Very cool.

This is the rugged obsidian 45?

Did you consider others? I'm considering a couple of cans, One for my 9mm and one for my lever guns.

Given how much lead I plan on shooting, I am leaning towards the Griffin Bushwacker 36 and 46 so i can toss the baffles in my tumbler. They are also 1.5" which is a bit bigger than my ghost m's both would be rated for my 350 legend and 450 bushmaster uppers.
