Advice from an old rangemaster I took to heart. If you know you are tired, don't try to do anything serious on the range. (Sighting in, true match practice, load testing, etc.). If you still want to shoot, shoot. Ring steel, shoot reactive targets, or plink. Serious work when you are tired can be both counter productive and frustrating. You often have to come back and redo the serious work anyway.

I tried hard to keep that advice in mind. So...
I always tucked a fun gun in the bag. :D

Nothing negative was intended Sir. Hats off. :)

You noticed your shooting started to fade after you ate, and took a break, then came back at it. Later you pointed out that your groups began to spread as you tired. Outstanding.

As an instructor, I was watchful of new shooters who never thought that they were lifting and extending weights ahead of them in the handgun class. This is something most have never done. As they tired, they began to loose the gains they made, and it could both shake their confidence and turn out to be a waste of time and ammunition. :D We either stopped for the day or shot large reactive targets to close on a positive.

Sorry if my post seemed like a critique.

No problem. You haven’t said anything that isn’t true. Tx gunrunner told me the same thing.

Marine is so right. My shooting coach when I was in junior high told me the same thing, since I took shooting so seriously that I had a tendency to practice to the point of getting pretty fatigued. He scolded again and again that it took longer to get rid of a bad habit than learn the right one, so take a break before that happens. Used to think he was picking on me since he watched me like a hawk compared to most of the other kids, but later learned it was just the opposite. Told me in private that I was worth the extra work. Great memories.

These days I tire quickly with my offhand shooting, so when I get tired, I shoot off a rest at steel. In my younger days, it was a shooting session down in the pasture with tin cans.
