It started out windy, then went calm for about 45 minutes while I was at the range. So I shot about 75 yds off hand with my Pedersoli Frontier percussion rifle, .50 cal. I have a tendency to pull right often. Working on it but it is a bad habit of mine.

50 grains Triple 7 BP substitute
.490 ball
.010 patch lubed with vegetable oil

75 yds off hand, 10" target





I am excited to try the flintlock when it arrives, something tells me it's the only gun I'll shoot after that....

Some old timers named their rifles, I have a name selected for the flintlock....Chinook...after the relentless winds here!

Great shooting RR. If you have half the fun that I did when I first started shooting a flint you will have a ball and I too think it will also be you most used rifle. I first started back in 1976 with a flintlock and never looked back.

RR, my eyes get tired fairly quick shooting those primitive sights, these days. One good thing about muzzle-loading, though, is the very slow pace of fire, so my eyes would get a bit of a rest between shots.

Yeah, I'm trying to talk myself into a muzzle loader. May stop in at our LGS and talk to our friend, the owner, about availability of caps and powder and see what he can get for me.

I love the slower pace. Makes for a very relaxing few hours. I can just see you there with a coffee, just casually plinking away....it's as close as I can get to time travel.

Does cut way down on ammo usage, too. 10 shots or so makes for a decent shooting session.

And if you have someone to shoot with its even more satisfying. I wish I was there to shoot with you.

Yes, that target today was a solid 2 hours of fun.

Chinook, that’s a good name for your rifle.

I’ve started calling my new pup Chinook because when I take him outside all he wants to do is eat snow.

Nice shooting as usual and happy the winds calmed down for a while.
