Last shots for 2021........

My 1873 44 mag Winchester shoots well but still needed to open up that rear sight for consistent hits so a few minutes in the mill took care of that.

Much better now after taking it to the range today and that 200 gr. load using 9.5 gr. of Unique is a sweet one from 35 yds standing with just a click up in elevation to get one hit in the red zone!

These were plated Xtreme bullets I had left but have some 200 gr RNFP coated MB bullets coming and I might drop the load to 8 gr. of Unique due to the Cowboy Action hardness of 12 Bhn. Did a nice center cut on the little pumpkin too!

So ending 2021 on a good shot !

Good work Forty. Looks like you have those sights tuned to your eyes. That's the challenge we face as we get older. I'm getting to the point where red dot optics are the cats meow. I have them on both my AR-15 rifles, my Ruger PC carbine and my M&P 15-22. I'm now thinking about red dots for my Henry BBS and Marlin 1894.

Yes Al there is and I have the piece already made up. It has to be either super glued or silver soldered on to the backside of the sight.
That cut I made is just slightly larger than the .156 hole in the peep insert....a clearance cut. I wanted to try it the way it is without the full circle peep sight to see how well I could shoot it. I like it the way it is right now as all you have to do is keep the front sight centered in the "U" shape. BTW that rear sight is made of hard spring steel and had to use a carbide .180 diameter cutter to do the job and lucky I had one handy.
I put a bit of sight paint of the front sight for contrast on dark targets. Anyway it is much quicker to get lined up on targets now and was having fun
plinking on the swinging plates from 30-40 yds. Also that load is similar to the .44-40 load.
