My 10 year old grandson is spending the weekend with us, so today we did some backyard shooting. We set up some 6" steel plates at 25 yards and also some 8' round steel at 13 yards. The 25 yard targets were for the rimfire rifle and the 13 yard targets were for some pistol shooting. What a blast we had! Must have fire 250 rounds of 22 from my Ruger American Rimfire and my old Remington.
The fun part was watching him learn and improve. Like most kids he start out blasting away and missing a lot. When the light bulb went on, he slowed down and took careful aim. He started out hitting only 3 out of 10 shots. When he ended up he had hit 9 out of 10 regularly. Boy was he please with himself. Finally he asked if we could move the targets back further. So we moved the 6" targets to 35 yards. He loved the extra challenge.
Before we ended I brought out my old Remington 550 auto loader. It was a little cumbersome for him because I couldn't shorten the length of pull like the Ruger. But he stepped up to some rapid fire with the 35 yard targets. He did and excellent job with both rifles and was pleased with his learning to aim carefully and squeeze the trigger.

That is so nice. How can you beat a day out shooting with one of the grandkids? Bet he'll remember that down through the years.

NCG the smile on his face was priceless. Afterwards when we went back to put away the firearms and gear he had so many questions about my reloading equipment. I think he's may be hooked.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 5:47 pmThat is so nice. How can you beat a day out shooting with one of the grandkids? I think so, too.

Hey Paul. I grew up with one of those 550s. Excellent rifle.
Glad you got out with your grandson.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
