Sunday's 22 plinking.... Pump vs. The Lever

A nice Sunday afternoon for some leisurely 22 plinking and I brought along the Henry Pump and the Evil Roy lever action carbine.
Ammo for the shoot was CCI 22 LR Quiets and CCI Sub Sonic. Also a nice field of targets to choose from plus I wanted to compare both rifles with the two types of ammo. Shooting distance was 25 yds, for the rifles and various distance with the Cattleman 12 shooter revolver.

My helper today was range pup Ace who comes running down to my place after the first shot. A great little hunter he is and he chased something up a tree! That kept him busy and out of my target area for a while.

Looking at the target card the Evil Roy carbine liked the Quiet 22 ammo which I like to shoot for plinking with no ear protection needed.
The Pump rifle didn't seem to like it as much looking at the wide group which was shooting high above the spade where arrow is pointing to., Changing out the ammo to the faster Sub Sonic ammo tightened things up a bit with the Pump rifle and was so so for the Evil Roy lever action. The 12 shot revolver seemed to like the faster ammo as well.

Spent the rest of the session having a ball plinking on the target hill and the big gong from70 yds.

Yep a very enjoyable afternoon at the range!

Nice shooting, forty. I've generally done better with subsonic than the CCI Quiet. My biggest issue with the Quiet has always been the consistency. Pretty hard to go 5 in a row at 25 or 30 yards without some flyers. Interestingly, I've done a little better at 25 yards for consistency with some CB loads. Might try some if you can find them, but that's a pretty big if, these days.

I do have some CB's and while at my LGS they had a well stocked area of a wide variety of .22 ammo including the 22 Shorts.
The action on the Henry Evil Roy carbine is super slick after a bit of lube! Nice shooting carbine.

Looks like you had a very good day. Nice shooting and a good check of what your 22's like for a diet. :D

Thanks NCG ! The range has come along nicely with a lot of work, This time of year I can really enjoy it without the need to do grass maintenance!
