The Odd couple 44's

Post by fortyshooter » Fri Oct 01, 2021 6:38 pm

Another round of shooting my Henry 44 Carbine and this time I paired him up with Smitty the S&W Model 69 .44 Mag revolver.
Turned out the odd combo worked really well today after the shooter got warmed up!

This time I was shooting same 240 MB cast bullets but with 18.5 gr. of Alliant 2400 powder fairly hot round in the Henry and he liked it too !
Nice group on the target from 35 yds standing and no key holes.

My S&W 69 once I got in the groove was shooting the milder 240 gr MB with 9 gr. Unique very well also. First several shots I was all over the place until settling down for a nice center group shooting one handed from 15 yds.

Then on to shootin' the steel and the dueling tree. https://youtu.be/SPsbtK42A08

Great weather and some great fun with the odd couple! No need for .432 sized cast bullets now that Henry is happy! :D

Well normally I would pair up the Henry with my SA revolvers which are blued but yeah the Smith will do nicely also.

Hmm. Seems like the Henry likes 2400. I wouldn't think powders could cause tumbling, but, knowing firearms.....
Good shooting forty.

Got to get those up to around 1500 FPS which 2400 does well. That's about as far as I want to push a coated lead bullet. The bore was clean after shooting today.

Yep it is a nice handy size and weight for carrying some serious power if you need to. I had to send back to S&W twice to get the cylinder gap and action issues corrected but it has been great since then.

Nice shooting forth. Local guy I know loves that M/69 and has quite a few. I’ve shot his and it’s a pleasure with his cast loads.

Too bad most of us on this site know exactly what you mean by the Odd Couple. ;)

I was looking on Guns International last night and not a M-69 to be found and GB had a couple of the shorter 2 3/4 barrel versions. I've had this one since 2018. Man if S&W had made it in blue that would be sweet!
