Testing Forty's Peepsight

Took my Henry BBS 357 Mag and my Marlin 1894 45 Colt to the range today. Both rifles were modified with Forty's homemade peepsight. Let me just say that this is a home-run modification for any rifle. If you have a rifle with a buckhorn sight with and insert, making you own peepsight is worth the time.

Below are my two rifles i tested this modification on:

Here is the first 5 shots from the Henry BBS at 30 yds:

After I switched to the Marlin 1894 I was tweaking the sight and shot the group below:

I've never fired a group that good with the Marlin and the buckhorn sights.

I also had an interesting experience that I believe was a function of the range layout and the velocity of the 357 Mag loads. When shooting the Henry I noticed a distinct crack echo back after each shot. I believe that was the reflection of the sonic crack from the bullet. These rounds are traveling at 1300 fps well above mach 1. From my range picture you can see how this rife range is shaped. I did not hear anything like that from the 45 Colt loads traveling below 1000 fps.

Thanks Forty for a great suggestion to improve the sight picture.

Nice range Paul and your impression of Fortys peeper mirrors mine. Next time shoot steel paper is boring. :D

Great shootin' Paul and very glad the "Cheap Peep" idea work well for you! Like the big ragged hole in 2nd target!

That range area is beautiful too!
