First outing with the Marlin Cowboy.(small update)
Just picked this up yesterday, it's a Marlin Cowboy in 38-55. It has a 24" octagon barrel, these were only made for a couple years. This one was made in '99 and belonged to a good friend who used to to looong range with it.
Well I loaded a couple different loads to try, first was a 10.0 grs of Unique under a 243 gr cast pill.
First shot way low, moved the rear sight a couple notches and hit the bottom of the target. One more notch and I was near the center.
All shots were at 60 yds. Then I tried 5 more with 20.0 grs of IMR 4198 and a 240 gr cast pill.
Looks like a slight windage adjustment is in order and another notch on the rear.
All in all I'm happy, think I'll go back in the house an load a couple more and slap the gongs a time or two.
Here's a couple pics of the rifle for your enjoyment.

Nice looking rifle. Had to look close at it. At first glance, workmanship resembles a Henry. Are you planning to put a scope on it? With an open sight, I suspect accuracy is reliable out to 100 yards or so. At least, that is my working range (kill zone). Looks like that you are on your way of getting to where you want also.

Love those marlin CBs. I've had a couple and they both shot lights out. Nicely done with yours.

Very nice Marlin from back in the day. Any of the JM's are worth holding on too. There was always pride in workmanship in those rifles. Enjoy and best of luck with it.
